New York Travel Tips
Someone once asked me what I love about New York. The answer was “Everything”!
61 Million people visited New York in 2017. The overall economic impact of those visitors is more than $60 Billion pounds to the economy of New York (according to 2014 reports from Reuters) That’s an awful lot of $$$’s and no wonder New Yorkers make you feel like the most important person on the planet. 359,000 jobs in the city are tourism related
As a first time visitor it took me a while to conquer the intimidation of the very tall buildings, but once you get used to them, it’s quite a place to be. Big buildings, big crowds, everything really is bigger and better in America.
I’ve teamed up with a few New Yorkers to write some tips about New York, that I hope you will find useful when you take your visit there.
Saving Money Tips
1. Pre Planning Your Excursions
Group together the sights that you want to see on each different day. This will save you journey time and more importantly, money. For example, as the Statue of Liberty & Wall street are close to each other, make those your day 1 attractions, then maybe day 2, Central Park & Times Square, etc etc. Does really make life so much easier a bit of pre-planning!
2. Buy a Tourist Pass
A 3 Day tourist Pass will set you back around $270 but you can save incredible amounts if you want to visit most of the attractions. For example, the Empire State Bulding on its own can cost upto $39 & the 911 Memorial & Museum at least $24. It’s estimated that a 3 day pass can save 50% off if you visit the average 15 attractions in the 3 days. The average cost to see an attraction is around $35 x 5 attractions per day= $525 but you only pay $270 and at time of this review there’s even a sale on at $223 so even more savings for you. See here for more information and booking guides. www.newyorkpass.com
3. Check out the FREE attractions
Some attractions are totally free, such as Central Park. And don’t worry about safety issues if you’ve been watching any old 70s movies. New York is now officially one of the safest cities in the USA. Here’s a list of some of the FREE attractions:

The busiest Tourist period is the Christmas & New Year period, where New York’s magic really gets into full swing. But it’s also the dearest period, along with early summer & later Autumn, so try to arrange your visit for some other periods to save on money.

Top 10 things to do in New York
1. Visit the 9/11 Memorial & Museum
No visit to New York would be complete without a visit to the Memorial of the World Trade Centre so dramatically reduced to rubble in the 9/11 terrorist attacks. The museum holds particular interest with Firefighters uniforms & equipment eerily damaged but still somehow preserved. Very thought-provoking & probably top of our New York Travel Tips
2. Ride the Empire Estate Building like a Gorilla
OK, not quite, but you can go to the top of probably the most iconic building in New York, perhaps even the world. Over 102 stories and over 1,205 feet high. On a clear day, you can see all five boroughs of New York. 5 people unfortunately died during the building of the Empire State Building.

Train buffs like me will love this iconic building, but so will everyone else who loves buildings of this nature. Opened in 1913 this is a world-famous landmark right in midtown. One of the busiest train stations in the world with 750,000 visitors every single day. It’s home to restaurants, shops and the worlds biggest Apple store. There’s an opal faced clock valued at $20 million and the mystifying acoustics of the whispering gallery. Audio and guided tours are also available for visitor enjoyment. A highly recommended visit.

If you can afford the $300+ you simply have to take the helicopter ride over New York. The ride takes about 20 mins and I promise you, you will remember it forever. Of course, you simply have to see one of the worlds most iconic statues. Given as a gift of friendship from the people of France, it symbolises freedom & democracy. It was even designated as a National Monument in 1924 and restored for her centennial in 1986. The viewing times are 08.30 till 4 pm but you can expect long queues for this.
9. Visit Times Square
Hectic, chaotic & loud are just some of the reviews from people visiting Times Square. But you have to just go with the flow and experience it yourself. The billboards are lit up and there are crowds of people in every direction. I would suggest a visit to Madame Tussaud’s to see very lifelike recreations of Abraham Lincoln, Marilyn Monroe 7 Michael Jackson to name a few, but there are 5 floors to investigate and something for everyone.
10 See Broadway
Broadway is just around the corner to Times Square so it’s a natural progression to visit. Full of Theatres and bars, it really is something to see. You should make the visit complete with a visit to your favourite show, as they are all here.
